This casual\, family-friendly event is open to dads\, moms\, children\, and other family members who would like to attend. The event will take place on several acres overlooking Eagle Mountain Lake.  There will be outside activities as well as an indoor space with air conditioning!  Burgers\, hot dogs\, chips\, drinks and dessert are included in the registration fee of $15 per family. \n\nWe know dads often process grief in their own ways\,but that doesn’t mean they grieve less. SUMMARY:August retreat for Older Child Loss

Our hearts break and our minds race and yet no one can see or feel that which is happening inside of us. We all grieve differently and sometimes the ways that we grieve are misunderstood by others and even by ourselves. This is why it is so important to find others who are walking a similar path who can truly relate to what we are thinking and feeling. \nIn the time shared during the retreats our children are celebrated and the relationship that we continue to share with them is nourished. Time is also intentionally set aside for rest\, relaxation and reflection. \nParents are free to choose as many activities to participate in or as few. We understand that sometimes the time away is simply what is needed. A Licensed Professional Counselor will be leading a group session on grief that is highly encouraged for all parents to participate in. \nThe $350 non-refundable cost includes all lodging with beautiful accommodations in Fort Worth\, TX\, programming costs (includes all materials for remembrance activities\, rituals\, and Licensed Professional Counselor) as well as 7 meals. The only thing that is not covered is the cost of whatever the parent/s decide to do during the free night. \nDue to a generous grant a large part of the retreat cost is being underwritten. \nThis retreat is dedicated to the life and legacy of Nathaniel Henry Lin. Nathan was a smart\, funny\, joyful\, loving\, faithful\, goofy little boy who was filled with enthusiasm and spirit- especially when cheering on his TCU Horned Frogs or Texas Rangers! Nathan loved Star Wars; Legos; chess; Pokémon; Hotwheels; dancing like a ninja; Beethoven’s 9th Symphony; drawing; all things chocolate and Chick Fil A.  His Kindergarten teacher  said he was the most “spiritual” child she had ever taught and his strong\, unwavering faith helped guide our family on the difficult journey we faced after his diagnosis. In many ways\, Nathan was incredibly wise and insightful\, but also saw the world through the innocent eyes of a child. When he was 7 years old\, he was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme\, an aggressive\, malignant brain tumor for which there is no cure and limited treatment options. He underwent surgery\, a course of radiation and a clinical trial of chemotherapy.  His courageous battle lasted for 10 months. He died at home in his mother’s arms\, surrounded by his family on June 3\, 2016. Nathan is forever 8 years old\, but the “ripple” of his short but significant life continues to touch and enrich the lives of his family\, friends and others who have learned his story. \nNathan’s mother Cathy has been involved with A Memory Grows from its inception and has moved into a leadership role within the organization.  Nathan’s parents both attended the very first Older Child Loss Retreat.  Cathy says\, “A Memory Grows has been a lifeline in the journey we have been forced to walk since Nathan’s death.  It has given me a safe place to grieve\, share\, find fellowship and This retreat in particular will bring together parents who are survivors of suicide. In this setting we will find a safe place to remember and honor our children\, not for how they died but for how they lived. There is so much love and no tangible place to direct it.  You are not alone. \nWe would be honored to join you as you create a legacy and celebrate your child. Connecting with others who understand this journey of love and grief is often one of the most important parts of healing. \nThe $350 non-refundable cost includes all lodging with beautiful accommodations in Fort Worth\, TX\, programming costs (includes all materials for remembrance activities\, rituals\, and Licensed Professional Counselor) as well as 7 meals. We are excited to be partnering with Holy Sews and Team Mercy for this night of community and support. \nThis special event is open to all ages and all parents\, siblings\, family members and friends. Please bring your own lawn chairs or a blanket to sit comfortably on the lawn or pavilion. \nThis event is free to attend but we ask that you register below so we can plan accordingly! \n  \nPlease bring your own candle that is enclosed in glass to place on the stage as we speak our children’s names and allow their light to shine. You can bring one candle per family or multiple candles. You are welcome to decorate your candles before arriving. Each family is also welcome to bring a token of remembrance to sit next to the candle. This can be a photo\, a stuffed animal\, a blanket\, etc. \n  \nPlease begin arriving at 6:30 p.m. to set up your lawn chairs/blanket and visit with our partner organizations. We will begin the ceremony at approximately 6:45 p.m. and begin lighting candles at 7:00 p.m. The ceremony will include an introduction of the event\, readings\, music\, and stories from parents who have experienced the death of their baby from miscarriage\, stillbirth\, or infant loss. \n  \nAbout the International Wave of Light \nThe International Wave of Light is an annual event that takes place on Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day\, October 15. Candles are lit around the world in all time zones at 7:00pm and they remain lit for exactly 1 hour. As the candles are extinguished at 8:00pm the next time zone is lighting their candles and the wave of light continues as a symbol of the light and love of our children filling the world. Parents\, family and friends are encouraged to light candles in memory of their children. One of the most meaningful gifts that a parent can receive is knowing that their child is being remembered. Lake Drive\nWeatherford\, TX 76085 \nContact: MacKenzie Frkovic \nOur 11th Annual Ceremony of Remembrance will be held at 6:30pm Central Time on Monday\, November\, 30\, 2026. This will be an in-person Ceremony at the beautiful Brooks at Weatherford.  The service is held in the open air\, so please dress accordingly.  After the ceremony is complete a reception is held with light snacks and the opportunities to visit and create a token of remembrance in memory of your child. \nThis is a beautiful candlelit service where we acknowledge the grief and pain that hits us at our core\, as well as celebrate the love that always carries on and the relationship between a parent and child that not even death can stop. The names of all children who were remembered during our 2025 retreats\, special events and virtual community groups will be spoken during the ceremony. We are so happy that the ceremony will once again conclude with the release of lanterns representing all the children whose families are present at the ceremony. \nAll parents\, siblings\, family members and friends are invited to attend.
