Please bring your own lawn chairs or a blanket to sit comfortably on the lawn.\nThis event is free to attend but we ask that you register below so we can plan accordingly! \nThe International Wave of Light \nThe International Wave of Light is an annual event that takes place on Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Day\, October 15. Candles are lit around the world in all time zones at 7:00pm and they remain lit for exactly 1 hour. As the candles are extinguished at 8:00pm the next time zone is lighting their candles and the wave of light continues as a symbol of the light and love of our children filling the world. Parents\, family and friends are encouraged to light candles in memory of their children. One of the most meaningful gifts that a loss parent can receive is knowing that their child is being remembered. This simple gesture touches their heart and assures them that they are not alone. \nAbout the Event \nTeam Mercy\, A Memory Grows\, MEND and Holy Sews are coming together to present the Wave of Light in Dallas Fort Worth as a community event to celebrate and remember our babies. Two locations will be hosting the Wave of Light to allow as many participants as possible to gather with a community that understands the journey of grief that surrounds the death of a child. The Wave of light is a free event and open to the entire community.\n**Everyone who is attending should plan to bring a candle enclosed in glass to be lit during the ceremony. This can be a prefilled votive or a glass jar such as an old spaghetti sauce or jelly jar with a candle placed inside. You are welcome to decorate your candles before arriving so that each child will be represented in a beautiful and unique way. We all grieve differently and sometimes the ways that we grieve are misunderstood by others and even by ourselves. This is why it is so important to find others who are walking a similar path who can truly relate to what we are thinking and feeling. \nRetreats presented by A Memory Grows connects parents who have experienced similar losses. This retreat in particular will bring together parents who are survivors of suicide. In this setting we will find a safe place to remember and honor our children\, not for how they died but for how they lived. In the time shared during the retreats our children are celebrated and the relationship that we continue to share with them is nourished. Time is also intentionally set aside for rest\, relaxation and reflection. \nParents are free to choose as many activities to participate in or as few. We understand that sometimes the time away is simply what is needed. Her parents describe her in these words\, “Karyn’s greatest quality displaying her inner beauty was her compassion. She loved helping people and making people happy. She saw the goodness in everyone\, especially when no one else could. She was a completely selfless young lady\, who strived to bring others happiness through laughter\, as Karyn was quite a prankster. Everyone that knew Karyn loved her. She had a way of connecting with everyone she met\, both young and old. She adored children and considered a future as a Neonatal Intensive Care Nurse or a Licensed Clinical Social Worker so she could help children who suffer. Her greatest act of selflessness was making the decision to become an organ donor when she got her drivers permit – truly demonstrating her compassion for others. Karyn suffered in silence while bringing others joy.” \nKaryn died by suicide on November 20\, 2018\, at the age of 15 after years of suffering from major depression. Parents have journeyed from 27 different states and Canada to find a community that is like no other. Since 2022 we have expanded our outreach to the families of the Robb Elementary shooting in Uvalde\, Texas. Our new retreat venue provides a peaceful setting for remembering\, celebrating\, honoring\, and looking forward for our families. Our hearts break and our minds race and yet no one can see or feel that which is happening inside of us. We all grieve differently and sometimes the ways that we grieve are misunderstood by others and even by ourselves. This is why it is so important to find others who are walking a similar path who can truly relate to what we are thinking and feeling. \nIn the time shared during the retreats our children are celebrated and the relationship that we continue to share with them is nourished. Time is also intentionally set aside for rest\, relaxation and reflection. \nParents are free to choose as many activities to participate in or as few. We understand that sometimes the time away is simply what is needed. A Licensed Professional Counselor will be leading a group session on grief that is highly encouraged for all parents to participate in. \nThe $350 non-refundable cost includes all lodging with beautiful accommodations in Fort Worth\, TX\, programming costs (includes all materials for remembrance activities\, rituals\, and Licensed Professional Counselor) as well as 7 meals. Nathan was a smart\, funny\, joyful\, loving\, faithful\, goofy little boy who was filled with enthusiasm and spirit- especially when cheering on his TCU Horned Frogs or Texas Rangers! Nathan loved Star Wars; Legos; chess; Pokémon; Hotwheels; dancing like a ninja; Beethoven’s 9th Symphony; drawing; all things chocolate and Chick Fil A.  His Kindergarten teacher  said he was the most “spiritual” child she had ever taught and his strong\, unwavering faith helped guide our family on the difficult journey we faced after his diagnosis. In many ways\, Nathan was incredibly wise and insightful\, but also saw the world through the innocent eyes of a child. When he was 7 years old\, he was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme\, an aggressive\, malignant brain tumor for which there is no cure and limited treatment options. He underwent surgery\, a course of radiation and a clinical trial of chemotherapy.  His courageous battle lasted for 10 months. He died at home in his mother’s arms\, surrounded by his family on June 3\, 2016. Nathan is forever 8 years old\, but the “ripple” of his short but significant life continues to touch and enrich the lives of his family\, friends and others who have learned his story. \nNathan’s mother Cathy has been involved with A Memory Grows from its inception and has moved into a leadership role within the organization.  Nathan’s parents both attended the very first Older Child Loss Our hearts break and our minds race and yet no one can see or feel that which is happening inside of us. We all grieve differently and sometimes the ways that we grieve are misunderstood by others and even by ourselves. This is why it is so important to find others who are walking a similar path who can truly relate to what we are thinking and feeling. \nIn the time shared during the retreats our children are celebrated and the relationship that we continue to share with them is nourished. Time is also intentionally set aside for rest\, relaxation and reflection. \nParents are free to choose as many activities to participate in or as few. We understand that sometimes the time away is simply what is needed. A Licensed Professional Counselor will be leading a group session on grief that is highly encouraged for all parents to participate in. \nThe $350 non-refundable cost includes all lodging with beautiful accommodations in Benbrook\, TX\, programming costs (includes all materials for remembrance activities\, rituals\, and Licensed Professional Counselor) as well as 7 meals. Nathan was a smart\, funny\, joyful\, loving\, faithful\, goofy little boy who was filled with enthusiasm and spirit- especially when cheering on his TCU Horned Frogs or Texas Rangers! Nathan loved Star Wars; Legos; chess; Pokémon; Hotwheels; dancing like a ninja; Beethoven’s 9th Symphony; drawing; all things chocolate and Chick Fil A.  His Kindergarten teacher  said he was the most “spiritual” child she had ever taught and his strong\, unwavering faith helped guide our family on the difficult journey we faced after his diagnosis. In many ways\, Nathan was incredibly wise and insightful\, but also saw the world through the innocent eyes of a child. When he was 7 years old\, he was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme\, an aggressive\, malignant brain tumor for which there is no cure and limited treatment options. He underwent surgery\, a course of radiation and a clinical trial of chemotherapy.  His courageous battle lasted for 10 months. He died at home in his mother’s arms\, surrounded by his family on June 3\, 2016. Nathan is forever 8 years old\, but the “ripple” of his short but significant life continues to touch and enrich the lives of his family\, friends and others who have learned his story. \nNathan’s Our hearts break and our minds race and yet no one can see or feel that which is happening inside of us. We all grieve differently and sometimes the ways that we grieve are misunderstood by others and even by ourselves. This is why it is so important to find others who are walking a similar path who can truly relate to what we are thinking and feeling. \nRetreats presented by A Memory Grows connects parents who have experienced similar losses. This retreat in particular will bring together parents who are survivors of suicide. In this setting we will find a safe place to remember and honor our children\, not for how they died but for how they lived. In the time shared during the retreats our children are celebrated and the relationship that we continue to share with them is nourished. Time is also intentionally set aside for rest\, relaxation and reflection. \nParents are free to choose as many activities to participate in or as few. We understand that sometimes the time away is simply what is needed. A Licensed Professional Counselor will be leading a group session on grief that is highly encouraged for all parents to participate in. \nThe $350 non-refundable cost includes all lodging with beautiful accommodations in Benbrook\, Texas\, programming costs (includes all materials for remembrance activities\, rituals\, and Licensed Professional Counselor) as well as 7 meals. This race is open to anyone who would like to join us as we honor the lives and legacies of our children. While our race is not officially timed by a timing company\, we have many serious runners who participate each year. Our participants include parents who have experienced the death of a child\, friends and family of grieving parents\, community members who want to support our organization\, and casual or serious runners and walkers. The Legacy 5K is an uplifting event full of hope\, community\, and love. \nA Memory Grows is committed to journeying with parents who are grieving the death of their child at any age. No matter how long we were able to have them\, it could never have been long enough. We are thrilled to be moving into our 9th year of offering retreats. We offer 8-9 retreats a year as well as 6 special events. Parents have journeyed from 27 different states and Canada to find a community that is like no other. Since 2022 we have expanded our outreach to the families of the Robb Elementary shooting in Uvalde\, Texas. Our new retreat venue provides a peaceful setting for remembering\, celebrating\, honoring\, and looking forward for our families. We are so honored to be able to walk beside so many on a journey that no one ever expects to travel. Our hearts break and our minds race and yet no one can see or feel that which is happening inside of us. We all grieve differently and sometimes the ways that we grieve are misunderstood by others and even by ourselves. This is why it is so important to find others who are walking a similar path who can truly relate to what we are thinking and feeling. \nRetreats presented by A Memory Grows connects parents who have experienced similar losses. This retreat in particular will bring together parents who are survivors of suicide. In this setting we will find a safe place to remember and honor our children\, not for how they died but for how they lived. In the time shared during the retreats our children are celebrated and the relationship that we continue to share with them is nourished. Our hearts break and our minds race and yet no one can see or feel that which is happening inside of us. We all grieve differently and sometimes the ways that we grieve are misunderstood by others and even by ourselves. This is why it is so important to find others who are walking a similar path who can truly relate to what we are thinking and feeling. \nIn the time shared during the retreats our children are celebrated and the relationship that we continue to share with them is nourished. Time is also intentionally set aside for rest\, relaxation and reflection. \nParents are free to choose as many activities to participate in or as few. We understand that sometimes the time away is simply what is needed. A Licensed Professional Counselor will be leading a group session on grief that is highly encouraged for all parents to participate in. \nThe $350 non-refundable cost includes all lodging with beautiful accommodations in Fort Worth\, TX\, programming costs (includes all materials for remembrance activities\, rituals\, and Licensed Professional Counselor) as well as 7 meals. The only thing that is not covered is the cost of whatever the parent/s decide to do during the free night. \nDue to a generous grant a large part of the retreat cost is being underwritten. \nThis retreat is dedicated to the life and legacy of Nathaniel Henry Lin. Nathan was a smart\, funny\, joyful\, loving\, faithful\, goofy little boy who was filled with enthusiasm and spirit- especially when cheering on his TCU Horned Frogs or Texas Rangers! Nathan loved Star Wars; Legos; chess; Pokémon; Hotwheels; dancing like a ninja; Beethoven’s 9th Symphony; drawing; all things chocolate and Chick Fil A.  His Kindergarten teacher  said he was the most “spiritual” child she had ever taught and his strong\, unwavering faith helped guide our family on the difficult journey we faced after his diagnosis. In many ways\, Nathan was incredibly wise and insightful\, but also saw the world through the innocent eyes of a child. When he was 7 years old\, he was diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme\, an aggressive\, malignant brain tumor for which there is no cure and limited treatment options. He underwent surgery\, a course of radiation and a clinical trial of chemotherapy.  His courageous battle lasted for 10 months. He died at home in his mother’s arms\, surrounded by his family on June 3\, 2016. Nathan is forever 8 years old\, but the “ripple” of his short but significant life continues to touch and enrich the lives of his family\, friends and others who have learned his story. \nNathan’s mother Cathy has been involved with A Memory Grows from its inception and has moved into a leadership role within the organization.  Nathan’s parents both attended the very first Older Child Loss Retreat.  Cathy says\, “A Memory Grows has been a lifeline in the journey we have been forced to walk since Nathan’s death.  It has given me a safe place to grieve\, share\, find fellowship and Our hearts break and our minds race and yet no one can see or feel that which is happening inside of us. We all grieve differently and sometimes the ways that we grieve are misunderstood by others and even by ourselves. This is why it is so important to find others who are walking a similar path who can truly relate to what we are thinking and feeling. \nRetreats presented by A Memory Grows connects parents who have experienced similar losses. This retreat in particular will bring together parents who are survivors of suicide. In this setting we will find a safe place to remember and honor our children\, not for how they died but for how they lived. In the time shared during the retreats our children are celebrated and the relationship that we continue to share with them is nourished. Time is also intentionally set aside for rest\, relaxation and reflection. \nParents are free to choose as many activities to participate in or as few. We understand that sometimes the time away is simply what is needed.
